MULTILIT licensing information

What is a MULTILIT licence?

A MULTILIT licence is a legally binding document that enables the user to implement the MULTILIT Reading Tutor Program (Revised) commercially or in a community project.

The initial licensing fee includes:

  •  One complete MULTILIT Reading Tutor Program (Revised)
  •  Attendance at 3-day MULTILIT Accreditation Course
  •  12-month licence fee

There is an annual license fee to enable you to continue using the MULTILIT Program and receive the benefits of being a licensed MULTILIT practitioner.

Why is it necessary to have a licence to use the program?

There are a number of reasons why a licensing system has been introduced.

  • The MULTILIT Reading Program represents an enormous amount of expertise and research over many years. Licensing is a way of protecting the intellectual property within the program.
  • It is also a way of ensuring that the program is used in the way it was intended. This protects the integrity of the program and the reputation of MULTILIT.
  • Through a licensing system, MULTILIT will be able to be more effective in disseminating good research-based practice to a variety of people in the field of literacy instruction.

What are the benefits of becoming a MULTILIT licensed practitioner?

  • Your name will appear on our database of licensed practitioners who have successfully completed our accreditation process
  • You will enjoy discounts on resources, training and any other MULTILIT events
  • You will be able to use the MULTILIT name and its established reputation to attract business
  • You will have access to support in implementing the program
  • Professional development on an annual basis (level depends on type of licence)
  • Discounts on individual MUTLILIT products and services.

Do you need to have specific qualifications to get a license?

We are looking to license people or organisations with relevant experience in the area of literacy instruction and/or qualifications in education or related professions. The nature of the program does need a high level of commitment.

Will I receive any training if I become a licensee?

If you are granted a licence and agree to the terms and conditions as laid out in the licensing agreement, you will need to attend the first available accreditation course in order to get your MULTILIT Certificate of Accreditation. You may not commence trading as a MULTILIT practitioner until this training is successfully completed. A level of professional development and updating of skills on an annual basis will be part of the licensing package.

How do I know if I am suitable to become a MULTILIT licensed practitioner?

A MULTILIT practitioner needs to have the following qualities and skills:

  • Excellent communication skills and a good command of English
  • Able to at least clearly say the sounds from the MULTILIT Sound Prompt Cards (see MULTILIT Toolbox)
  • Able to follow a clearly laid out program conscientiously
  • Able to motivate and encourage struggling readers with patience
  • Able to provide a positive learning environment in which to deliver the program
  • Able to work alongside parents/carers in a constructive way
  • Able to monitor progress of students
  • Able to keep records

Are all the licences the same?

There will be variations in the kind of licence awarded depending on the kind of use. Bigger businesses will be treated differently to smaller businesses. Not for profit projects will be treated differently to commercial businesses.

Will everyone who applies get a licence?

Not necessarily. MULTILIT will grant licences at its discretion. Decisions will be based on where the business will be set up and the ability to deliver the program.

What will the cost of a licence be?

The cost of a licence will vary depending on size of business e.g. a clinic will pay more for a license than an individual.

I have been using the old program, do I need a licence?

You need to get a licence when you update to the new program. The recording books for the old program are available for a limited period but then all users will need to upgrade to the new program if they wish to continue using MULTILIT as part of their business.

I have been using MULTILIT for years; do I need to attend the training if I want to become a licensee?

Many people are using MULTILIT very successfully, but it has been brought to our notice that some people do not deliver the program in the way it was intended. This obviously impacts on the program’s reputation and parents’ satisfaction. For this reason we have implemented compulsory accreditation training for all licensees in order for clients attending MULTILIT tuition to have confidence that the licensee has had adequate and relevant training. This is to ensure consistency of standard across the country.
