MultiLit is pleased to be presenting PD Workshops on the following programs in Adelaide during the final quarter of 2019.
MiniLit: 24-25 October, 25-26 November 2019
The MiniLit program has been designed as a small group intervention for the bottom 25% of Year 1 and Year 2 students.
MiniLit incorporates the five key elements research has shown to be essential for effective beginning reading instruction (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary).
Training in MiniLit is compulsory prior to the delivery of the program. The two-day PD Workshop provides hands-on demonstrations and ample opportunity to ask questions about how to implement MiniLit in your school.
Reading Tutor Program: 30 October 2019
The Reading Tutor Program (RTP) is a literacy intervention program for struggling readers and reflects a contemporary approach to best practice literacy instruction as identified by international reading scientists and various inquiries into reading. It is a one-to-one program which can be delivered to students in Year 2 and above by classroom teachers, learning support teachers or trained teacher aides. The RTP is available for purchase by schools only.
Training via our one-day PD Workshop is highly recommended to give the user confidence to get started. The workshop explains each of the program’s three strands, and provides opportunities to practise delivery.
Spell-It: 31 October 2019
Spell-It is a program that assists teachers to plan and implement spelling instruction based on assessment of students’ current knowledge. Spell-It teaches the rules, conventions, structure and logic of the English language, to enable teachers to plan effective spelling lessons based on the needs of their students.
The program can be tailored to the needs of students in Year 4 and above, and can be delivered to a whole class or small group by classroom teachers or learning support teachers.
Spell-It is only available for purchase by schools.
Training via our one-day PD Workshop is compulsory prior to implementing the program, covering the Spell-It teaching approach, identification of spelling needs through assessment, opportunities to practise lesson delivery, and practical aspects of implementation.
Word Attack Skills – Extension Program: 1 November 2019
The one-to-one Word Attack Skills – Extension Program follows on from the RTP to teach strategies to help struggling readers tackle multi-syllable words with confidence. The program is designed for students in Year 4 and above, and is available for purchase by schools only.
Training via our one-day PD Workshop is highly recommended to provide essential background knowledge, as well as the research base behind the program. The workshop provides a step-by-step guide to the interventions and strategies used, and provides opportunities to practise lesson delivery.
PreLit: 19 November 2019
PreLit is a systematic skills-based early literacy preparation program for preschool children who will be making the transition to formal schooling the following year, as well as older children who do not have the prerequisite skills for learning to read.
Taught to a whole class, small groups or one-to-one, the PreLit program focuses on the development of two key aspects of literacy that are fundamental to early reading success: oral language development and phonological awareness.
For best results delivering PreLit, training via the one-day PD Workshop is highly recommended, particularly for educators who may not be familiar with evidence-based teaching of emergent literacy skills and concepts.
MacqLit: 20-21 November 2019
MacqLit is a an explicit and systematic reading intervention for small groups of older low-progress readers. It is suitable for students in Year 3 and above, including secondary school years.
A recent analysis of research relating to students who undertook MacqLit for two terms found the students made substantial and statistically significant gains in word reading accuracy, nonword reading accuracy, spelling accuracy, passage reading fluency, passage reading accuracy, and reading comprehension.
MacqLit is available for purchase by schools only.
Training in MacqLit is compulsory prior to the delivery of the program. The two-day PD Workshop provides hands-on demonstrations and ample opportunity to ask questions about how to implement MacqLit in your school.
