Evidence-based literacy instruction is making significant strides in closing the educational gap in disadvantaged and majority Indigenous schools in Australia. The MultiLit Closing the Gap Initiative, launched in 2021, has shown promising results with some students demonstrating more than 12 months’ growth in literacy skills over a year. This initiative provides structured literacy programs, professional development for educators, and direct tutoring for students, aiming to bring all children to an average reading level for their age. The success of this program has led to a 12-month funding extension from the Australian Government.
