The Federal Government recently announced an additional $35 million in funding to support education programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. This includes a $1.5 million funding extension to the MultiLit Closing the Gap School Partnerships Initiative. This initiative aims to enhance literacy and educational outcomes in 42 majority Indigenous regional and remote schools. Currently in its fourth year, the initiative is demonstrating success, with school reporting their data and demonstrating important gains.

The National Indigenous Times article ‘Federal funding to support key education programs for Indigenous students’, quotes Emeritus Professor Kevin Wheldall AM and project director Chloe Allen, who said, “Students who previously struggled to engage with reading are now well on the way to becoming confident and fluent readers.”
