Dr Robyn Wheldall

Until her retirement from Macquarie University at the end of 2011, Robyn was a Research Fellow at Macquarie University Special Education Centre (MUSEC), where she now continues as an Honorary Fellow. Prior to being a Research Fellow, Robyn was the Research and Development Manager at MUSEC. She is a founding director of MultiLit Pty Ltd, a university spin-off company and is also the Deputy Director of the MultiLit Research Unit. Her published work includes ‘An Evaluation of MultiLit’ (2000), commissioned by the Commonwealth Government (co-authored with Professor Kevin Wheldall) and numerous articles on classroom behaviour management and helping low-progress readers.
Robyn has extensive experience in the establishment and implementation of remedial literacy programs in community settings, including the co-direction of the Schoolwise Program for disaffected older low-progress readers for the Exodus Foundation in Sydney since 1996, the establishment of the Gladstone Tutorial Centre in Central Queensland in 2001, the establishment of MultiLit tutorial centres for Indigenous low-progress readers in Cape York in 2005, and Exodus Redfern Tutorial Centre in 2007. In addition to effective literacy instruction, Robyn also researches troublesome classroom behaviour. In 2005 she was awarded a Macquarie University Community Outreach Award for her MultiLit work. She is an assistant editor of the journal of Learning Difficulties Australia (LDA), the Australian Journal of Learning Difficulties and is on the editorial board of Educational Psychology. Robyn has a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in History and a PhD in Special Education, both from Macquarie University.
