Professor Kevin Wheldall Awarded the Member of the Order of Australia for services to Children's Literacy
In the Australian honours system, appointments to the Order of Australia confer the highest recognition for outstanding achievement and service.
The Member of the Order of Australia is awarded for service in a particular locality or field of activity or to a particular group.
On Australia Day 2011, Professor Kevin Wheldall was awarded the Member of the order of Australia (AM) for services to children’s literacy.
“For service to education as an academic and researcher, particularly in the areas of learning and behavioural difficulties, and through the design and implementation of innovative literacy programs.”
Professor Kevin Wheldall has spent a life’s work focused towards real ways in which the educational prospects for children can be improved. More often then not, this is a service for our most disadvantaged children.
He was granted Australian citizenship on Australia Day 16 years ago, and there can be few migrants who have made such a profound contribution to the lives of children and ultimately the greater community.
This has often been against most vociferous criticism and endless obstacles. Despite this, his commitment to the lives of children has remained undiminished.
We would like to congratulate Professor Kevin Wheldall and Dr Robyn Wheldall who has been by his side for so much of the great work they have accomplished together at MultiLit.
