Mopoke Readers
transitional readers for students in Year 2 and above
Mopoke Readers are transitional readers that have been developed for children as they progress from decodable books to natural language text.
These readers, aimed at children aged 7–9, provide general reading practice. By this stage, children will have received instruction in the alphabetic code. Mopoke Readers provide further opportunities for children to develop their reading fluency and apply comprehension strategies to fiction and non-fiction text.
A versatile resource with general appeal, Mopoke Readers are suitable for younger, proficient readers as well as older, struggling readers. They can be used for teacher-led group and individual reading sessions, as well as in independent reading groups, classrooms, libraries and for home reading practice. The level of teacher support required will vary according to children’s reading proficiency.
There are five sets of books in the Mopoke Readers. Each set contains three fiction and three non-fiction titles. The readers are not levelled. However, they are loosely grouped from easier in Set 1 to harder in Set 5, based on vocabulary, inference and content complexity.
