MultiLit Senior Researcher, Dr Alison Madelaine, was quoted in an article in the Herald Sun, ‘Spelling by rote is not right’ on Wednesday 30 August 2023.
“There is far more research evidence supporting language-based spelling instruction as opposed to methods based mainly on rote memorisation,” she said.
“When children are taught to think about language and the internal structure of words, they acquire the knowledge and the tools needed to spell many more words than they would ever encounter on a spelling list.”
