Story book reading is a component of every small-group MiniLit lesson. Teachers may make their own selection of books for this part of the lesson, using the provided example lesson scripts to prepare three sessions around a book of their choice.
Alternatively, schools may like to purchase this MiniLit Story Book Cards set that provides all recommended activities to work with 40 well-known children’s storybooks. Each double-sided A4 card follows the recommended MiniLit method for working with storybooks, presenting a selection of questions teachers can ask during each session and the vocabulary to focus on in each book. The activities are clearly set out in three sections that can be easily referred to while teaching.
Examples of storybook titles include: I Wish I Had a Pirate Suit (Pamela Allen), The Gruffalo (Julia Donaldson), Where the Forest Meets the Sea (Jeannie Baker), Where the Wild Things Are (Maurice Sendak), and The Paper Bag Princess (Robert Munsch). Storybooks are not included and will need to be sourced from the classroom or school library.
