PreLit Kit

The PreLit Kit can be used by preschool teachers, teacher aides, childcare workers or parents in a long day care setting, early learning centre, preschool or in the home. The Kit provides a carefully scaffolded sequence of short scripted lessons, games and storybook activities to teach essential phonological awareness skills and develop oral language and vocabulary in preschool-aged children, laying a solid foundation for future literacy instruction success. The Kit can also be used by Foundation teachers to support children without sufficient pre-literacy skills to access the curriculum effectively. The Kit includes a Manual, a Lesson Handbook (containing 108 lessons divided into 12 units), Story Book Cards providing guidance to run three storybook reading sessions around 36 much-loved children’s literature titles, a Sound Snap Book, and all necessary accompanying supporting materials (Picture Cards, Letter Cards, Alphabet Picture Cards). There are no consumables required after purchase of the kit, keeping ongoing program implementation costs low. PreLit complements a play-based learning environment and follows the preferred method of intentional teaching for the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (Outcome 5 – Children are Effective Communicators).
