The InitiaLit–Foundation Kit provides teachers with daily whole-class lessons and all materials required to target the key skills required for successful literacy development during the first year of schooling. Lessons cover phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, spelling, and rich language instruction using children’s literature to support vocabulary growth and reading comprehension.

The InitiaLit–Foundation Kit provides teachers with daily whole-class lessons for children’s first year of schooling using a synthetic phonics approach and targeting the key skills required for successful literacy development: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, spelling, and rich language instruction to support vocabulary growth and reading comprehension. The Kit includes a Teacher’s Manual, 9 Handbooks with detailed lessons, a Storybook Lessons Manual with lessons to accompany 25 popular children’s literature titles, 6 Sounds and Words Books (for children to practise their developing phonics skills in small groups), an Assessment Manual, and accompanying supporting materials (e.g., Flashcards, posters of InitiaLit characters to introduce letters and sounds). Upon purchase, schools will also be given access to hundreds of downloadables to aid delivery and implementation (e.g., consolidation worksheets, Home Reading Diaries). Please note that a classroom set of InitiaLit Readers (Levels 1-9), aligned to the Foundation instructional sequence, will need to be purchased separately.
