MiniLit Sage
meeting initial needs in literacy
About MiniLit Sage
MiniLit Sage is the first major revision of the MiniLit program. It is a Tier 2 small group program for struggling readers in Year 1 and 2, providing explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, systematic synthetic phonics for reading and spelling, letter formation, and connected text reading.
MiniLit Sage represents the latest scientific research and evidence base on effective reading instruction and intervention. The program has also been revised to align with the scope and sequence of InitiaLit – MultiLit’s Tier 1 whole-class initial literacy instruction program for Foundation to Year 2. This ensures a coherent connection between whole-class instruction and intervention, as students master both the basic and extended alphabetic code.
For MiniLit Sage First-time Purchasers
For a first purchase of a MiniLit Sage Kit, purchase of a MiniLit Sage Professional Development (PD) Workshop is required, to ensure you get the most from your program and to maintain integrity of delivery. This applies even if you were previously a MiniLit customer.
Two options for training are available for MiniLit Sage:
- A live two-day workshop, or
- For individuals who have previously completed MiniLit training, a bridging workshop delivered by eLearning modules.
Please register for a MiniLit Sage PD Workshop (two-day workshop or bridging), and when prompted, add the MiniLit Sage Kit to your cart. If you would like to purchase more than one MiniLit Sage Kit, please increase the quantity in the cart before checking out.
Once you have completed the checkout process for these items, we will activate your MiniLit Sage Membership and send a confirmation by email within two business days. You will then be able to return to the shop to purchase additional consumables and replacement components.
Running MiniLit Sage groups
MiniLit Sage comprises Part A and Part B. A Kit includes consumables to run one Part A group and one Part B group, but you may wish to order additional consumables to run extra groups (one Testing and Lesson Records Book for the appropriate part per group, and Student Workbooks for each student).
- Part A: Teaches the basic phonic code for reading and spelling, starting with single letter-sound correspondences, then moving onto common digraphs. Useful irregular high-frequency words to ensure early access to connected text are also taught.
- Part B: Teaches the more useful digraphs from the advanced phonic code for reading and spelling, with a focus on accuracy and fluency for text reading. Irregular high-frequency words continue to be taught.
MiniLit Sage is only available for purchase by schools.
