A set of 60 delightful and engaging decodable readers designed for children in their second year of school (Year 1). These Readers are carefully scaffolded for children to practise their developing reading skills, building on the InitiaLit Readers Levels 1-9. Levels 10-16 follow an advanced phonic sequence and providing exposure to both fiction and non-fiction text types. The books gradually increase in length, moving children towards reading books with short sections or chapters with confidence by the end of Year 1. This full set contains one copy of each title in Levels 10-16, targeting the following sounds:
Level 10 (Foundation review), Level 11 (ai/ay, ee/ea, oa/ow, igh/y, ew/ue), Level 12 (ar, or/ore, er/ir/ur, ear/eer, air/are), Level 13 (split digraph), Level 14 (ou/ow, au/aw, oi/oy), Level 15 (vowel digraph review), Level 16 (Year 1 review).
The InitiaLit Readers Levels 10-16 are aligned to the InitiaLit–1 phonic sequence and should be purchased by schools using the InitiaLit–1 program.
Classroom sets (Levels 10-16), bundle sets for each level (10-16) or individual titles can also be purchased by parents wishing to support their child’s reading, or by any school wishing to provide decodable readers to support an evidence-based synthetic phonics approach to teaching reading. Each title includes instructions and pre- and post-reading activities to help teachers and parents use the books effectively. In addition, the last Reader in each level (10-16) is a Shared Reader, allowing an adult to help consolidate all the skills targeted at that level by reading together with a child.
