A second, parallel series of 60 delightful and engaging decodable readers designed for children in their first year of school. These Readers are carefully scaffolded for children to practise their developing reading skills, following a phonic sequence and gradually increasing in sentence and story length. This full set contains one copy of each title in Levels 1-9, targeting the following sounds:
Level 1 (m, s, t, a, p, i, f, r), Level 2 (o, c, d, h), Level 3 (e, n, g, l), Level 4 (k, u, b, j), Level 5 (w, ck, ll, ff, ss), Level 6 (sh, qu, ee, z/zz), Level 7 (ch, v, x, y), Level 8 (wh, th, oo, ng, ay), Level 9 (CVCC, CCVC).
The InitiaLit Readers Levels 1-9 are aligned to the InitiaLit–Foundation phonic sequence and should be purchased by schools using the InitiaLit–Foundation program. Series 2 provides a parallel series of readers for additional practice or home reading.
Classroom sets (six copies of all titles in the set), bundle sets for each level (1-9) or individual titles can also be purchased by parents wishing to support their child’s reading, or by any school wishing to provide decodable readers to support an evidence-based synthetic phonics approach to teaching reading. Each title includes instructions and pre- and post-reading activities to help teachers and parents use the books effectively. In addition, the first Reader in each level (1-9) is a Shared Reader, allowing an adult to provide extra support by reading together with a child.
